The first two days of the Teddy Bear Fair have been beary successful. With around 150 visitors each day there has been a steady stream of children and parents – bearly time to relax for the attendants.
Over 200 bears are in residence throughout the Museum. If you follow the paw prints you will see everything bears do: from eating breakfast porridge … to attending school lessons … to redecorating one of our rooms … to birthday partying … to singing in the rain.
Most children (and a few adults) have brought along their own favourite bear for the visit – they get their own name tag on entry so they won’t get lost among the Museum residents. Those who don’t bring a special friend can borrow one of ours for the visit – they appreciate a hug and visiting their friends throughout the Museum rather than just sitting in a Post Office shelf all day.
Making cinnamon bears at the Teddy Bear Craft Table is popular with most children. Others have enjoyed reading a Teddy Bear book. Many parents have just enjoyed a paws with a tea or coffee.
The Bearkery is available at the end of the tour to purchase tasty treats such as Teddy Bears in Bed or Honey Bear biscuits. There are even large popcorn bears. If you’re there in the middle of the day, you can purchase a Teddy Bear brown bag lunch, including a honey sandwich of course. It hasn’t so far been beary suitable weather for a Teddy Bear Picnic on the rear lawn, but we have tables and chairs under the front porch.
The Teddy Bear Fair is open daily 10 am – 4 pm each day THIS week until Sunday 24 July at the Old Highercombe Hotel Museum, 3 Perseverance Road, Tea Tree Gully. Admission by gold coin donation.
