A chance to see Barbara Rowney’s exquisite collection at the Embroiderers' Guild of SA Museum, ranging from small textile fragments to complete costumes.
Originally a teacher from the UK, Barbara travelled widely during her busy teaching career and was particularly interested in English, Greek and Turkish embroidery. She also volunteered at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, taking a sabbatical year in Turkey where she spent time at the Topkapi Textile Museum.
Barbara has been a member of the Embroiderers' Guild of SA since 1993 when she first arrived in Australia and has been a generous donor to the Guild Museum.
The exhibits will change from time to time in this rotating exhibition for 2017-18. They will feature many stunning items from around the world, including China, Egypt, Macedonia, Morocco, Norway, Russia and Turkey.
