Visit Thebarton Barracks during its centenary year. The SA Police Historical Society will hold its annual Open Day at the Barracks (corner of Port and Gaol Roads) on Sunday 7 May so spread the word and put a note in your diary now.
The Barracks, which have played an integral role in SAPOL's history, officially opened on 1 March 1917. Costing £16,000 to build, Thebarton Barracks was initially constructed for the use of the mounted constables as the North Terrace Barracks were no longer suitable. The site chosen was controversial, with complaints it was too far from the city.
