We were contacted last month by Irena Sosnowski with some exciting news about a new acquisition for the Polish Hill River Church Museum. As the Northern Argus reported A Polish Bible, which was used to swear in Premier Mike Rann and his Cabinet following the March state election, has been donated to the Polish Hill River Church Museum. The Governor of SA, His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC, officiated at the swearing-in of Mr Rann as Premier and the Cabinet on March 25. Mr Rann was sworn in using a Polish Bible presented to him by the Prelate of St Mary’s Basilica, Krakow, Dr Fildus. It is believed Mr Rann was the first Australian Premier ever to be sworn in using a Bible in the Polish language. The new acquisition had pride of place at the Museum during their History Week openings. The Polish Hill River Church Museum is located in the Clare Valley, near Sevenhill. It is open on the first Sunday of the month from 11 – 4 and tells the story of Polish migration to South Australia.
