Macclesfield Family Photo Scanfest

Scanfest, digitisation, childhood, family history, local history

Macclesfield History Group are holding two family photo scanfests in preparation for History SA’s traveling exhibition Once Upon a Time: Stories of South Australian Childhoods which they will be hosting at the Anglican Hall, Venables Street, Macclesfield during the last week in November.

Last Sunday 18 September they invited locals to the Sunday market in the 1874 Macclesfield Institute Hall building to bring family photos to be scanned to help create a slide show within the display. Despite the inclement weather there was a great turnout and members were busy scanning and taking notes of stories and people’s names.  Another scanfest will be held next Sunday 25 September at the same time, 12noon-2pm.

The Macclesfield History group are based in the Institute Hall where their archives are safely stored in a room behind the stage, and pictures and artefacts displayed in the community lunch room.  The group hopes to add a local flavour, with toys, photographs and stories from people with Macclesfield connections past or present to the pop up childhood display which will be available to view on 24, 25, 26, 28 and 29 November from 1-4pm.
