Out and About

In the last 3 months Amanda and Pauline have been busy getting out of the office as much as possible, meeting new community history groups and catching up with museums in the CMP network.  Some of the things we have done are:

•  Amanda met with the group running Annie Doolan’s Cottage at Marion to workshop display opportunities for the property and ran a strategic planning session for the committee that manages the historic property ‘Glenbarr’ at Strathalbyn

•  A skills session for CMP museums was held in Adelaide, focussed on accessing and using the blog, events and organisation profile features of the South Australian Community History website

•  We both gave papers at the State History Conference

•  Pauline met with the St John’s Ambulance Museum to talk about the process and requirements for becoming a registered museum in the CMP and Amanda met with the SA Army Museum to discuss requirements for moving from registration to accreditation

•  Amanda visited the Farm Shed Museum at Kadina to discuss content and design for the new exhibition ‘Sowing the Crop’

•  Pauline attended two launches of oral history films made by Ash Starkey:  ‘The Closed Schools of Marion’ produced with SA175 funding for the Marion Historical Society and ‘Ute-opia’ at the National Motor Museum, produced for Holden to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Holden ute

•  Pauline visited the Barossa Goldfields Historical Society’s annual open day at Bowden’s Cottage, the Gala Picnic at the Polish Hill River Church Museum for their Gala Picnic to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the first Polish church in Australia and the 175th anniversary of the founding of South Australia; and the SA175th High Tea at Ayers House Museum

•  Pauline attended the Narratives of War Research Group Symposium at the University of South Australia, Magill campus

You can read more about these events on our blog ‘Reflections on the Road’ and on our Flickr page via our SA Community History website.
