In June History SA welcomed the 62nd museum to the Community Museums Program (CMP) with the registration of the St John Ambulance Historical Society Museum at Unley. The museum is dedicated to exhibiting, collecting and researching the work of St John volunteers over its centuries’ long history and has a large collection of artefacts, photographs, documents and uniforms. The displays include a wide variety of medical/first aid related objects and stories of people involved in St John in South Australia. The Museum is run by volunteers and supported more broadly by the St John organisation.
The museum commenced working towards registration almost three years ago, but had an extended break from the process to concentrate on packing up the displays and stored collections and moving to new premises. They are now located just down the road from the Unley Museum. To complete the museum registration process the St John Museum committee worked with consultant Yvonne Routledge to complete their policies and procedures and set up displays at the new museum.
Congratulations St John Museum - it is great to have you in the program.
