Trains, Boats & Planes - Transport Festival

Saturday 15 & Sunday 16 October, 2016

Free entry for everyone to the event on both days! Steam train rides with Peronne ($3 adults), and the little blue steam train Bub (no charge). The 1950s Redhen 'rattler' railcars will be running between Port Adelaide and Adelaide station throughout the two day event. Special return fare applies - $10 per person, under 15 years no charge (accompanied by a paying Adult).

Steampunk Festival '16

All aboard the Steampunk Festival, now in its third year at the National Railway Museum. A mixture of antique dress-up, fascinating displays and exhibitions, weird science, theatre, smoke machines, live music, best dressed prizes, trade stalls and plenty of photographic opportunities. Steam trains Bub (free) & Peronne ($3) running both days.  Open Saturday until 9pm.

National Train and Father's Day

Free entry for all Dads when accompanied by a paying Adult. Take your Dad out to the National Train Day. Everyone gets free train rides behind Bub, the museum's little blue steam train. The big black steam train Peronne will also be running - just $3 for adults.

From the transport of war equipment, to troop trains transporting soldiers and nurses; railways played a significant part in Australia's war effort.  The National Railway Museum is hosting the Workshops Railway Museum travelling exhibition Railways 1914-18, which complements our latest exhibit South Australian Railways and the World War Years.

Drivers' Experiences

Join us at the National Railway Museum for a chance to drive steam locomotive Peronne ($40) or a Redhen railcar ($20) at our Drivers' Experiences. Each experience lasts about 15 minutes. Drivers must be at least 18 years old.  Passengers can ride each train for $3 per person. Entrance fees apply.
