History SA’s Community History Officers provide advice and assistance in a wide range of areas relevant to community history practice and museum and collections management.
We work with the network of museums who are registered or accredited in History SA’s standards program (the Community Museums Program) and with other historical groups and community collecting organisations.
We can help you with all aspects of collection and museum management including forward planning, developing new exhibitions or displays, preparing grant applications, planning or reviewing display text, getting started with a cataloguing or digitisation project, writing policies and procedures, developing collection storage and display spaces and collection care methods and display techniques.
We can either assist you directly or point you in the direction of further specialist assistance. Site visits can be arranged.
We also administer History SA’s two grant programs, the South Australian History Fund and the Community Museums Program grant fund. Grant rounds open in June each year, but you are welcome to enquire about possible projects and funding opportunities all year round.
